What is Violet Flame Reiki?

Violet Flame Reiki is a gentle, feminine, and powerful form of healing energy. I experience it as the Yin aspect to the Yang that is Usui Reiki. When channeled together, the energy of the Violet Flame creates a stronger, all-encompassing healing experience.

When focusing on Violet Flame Reiki, practitioners often feel a cool sensation, and a “softer” energy. However, this doesn’t mean that the energy is less effective, or less “potent”; in fact, Violet Flame Reiki is very strong and acts quickly. Its unique vibration is simply felt in a different way than Usui Reiki.

How to Use Violet Flame Reiki

That being said, Violet Flame Reiki is not meant to be used separately from Usui Reiki; in fact, it is meant to complement and strengthen your Reiki healing sessions. After you receive your attunement, there is no need to focus on either “type” of Reiki, as the Violet Flame will flow spontaneously.

Think of it like this: When you receive a Level 2, or Level 3 Usui Reiki attunement, you simply continue to channel Reiki as you normally would, knowing that your ability to channel is strengthened. You don’t think of channeling “Level 2 Reiki energy” or “Level 1 Reiki energy”, etc.

In the same way, you can view the Violet Flame as an advanced Master attunement (which it is, since you have to be a Reiki Master in order to receive the attunement), which further enhances and strengthens your ability to channel Reiki.

For this reason, it can be very helpful to play with the energy pulsing between your palms before and after your Violet Flame Reiki attunement, so that you can really feel the difference in the energy that you channel. Simply create a ball of energy between your palms, and take notes about how it feels, and how easy it is to manipulate (increase in size, change its shape, or move around). After your Violet Flame attunement, do the same thing – I’m sure you’ll notice a huge difference!

The Violet Flame Symbols

Violet Flame Reiki has 40 symbols, which the practitioner can use if they wish, but it isn’t necessary. Remember, it’s not even necessary to “call on” the Violet Flame whenever you want to work with it; you simply have to channel Reiki as you normally would, and the Violet Flame will flow naturally.

The Violet Flame Attunement

The Violet Flame attunement makes you a permanent channel for this form of Reiki, which will change your healing experiences forever! The Violet Flame and Usui Reiki attunements connect you to the Yin and Yang aspects of Life Force Energy respectively, so that whenever you channel Reiki, you are sharing this complete energy healing system.

In my personal experience, I perceive the energy of the Violet Flame as a soft, cool energy, that can change shape and size easily. Before my Violet Flame Reiki attunements, I always perceived Reiki as a bright, crystalline, rainbow light; after the attunements, I began to see Reiki as a golden light, which – according to my Violet Flame Teacher, Kim Wuirch – is the original colour of unfiltered, pure, Source energy.

The Origin of Violet Flame Reiki

The Violet Flame Reiki attunement that I received was originally channelled by Ivy Moore, who received it from the Goddess Kuan Yin, the Chinese Deity of Compassion. There are many different spellings for Her name, including “Quan Yin”, “Guan Yin”, and “Kwan Yin”. I would encourage you to do your own research on the Goddess Kuan Yin, and to contact Her yourself via meditation or journaling. While popular Deities, such as Kuan Yin, have pretty consistent “backstories”, everybody experiences their energy in a unique way.

Violet Flame Reiki Levels & Prerequisites

Violet Flame Reiki has 4 levels, and Reiki Masters are typically attuned to all 4 levels at once. As with all Reiki, the attunement can be performed in person or remotely (via distance). Because the last level includes a symbol that enables the student to attune others to the Violet Flame, it is important for the student to already be attuned at the Reiki Master Level. Therefore, an important prerequisite for the Violet Flame Reiki attunement is the completion of Usui Reiki Level 3 Master Teacher Training. Other than that, the only other requirement is an open mind and a desire to receive the energy!

We can theorize about Energy Medicine all day long, but it won’t mean anything unless you apply to your own life. Only then will you know if it serves you, if at all.

Most of the information that I’ve shared has been gleaned from my own experience, as well as that of my teacher and my fellow Violet Flame Reiki “classmates”. You will have your own experience, and undoubtedly will experience this energy in ways that are totally unique. This is the nature of Energy Medicine! It’s subjective and mysterious, and yet, it works.
