Wellness Tips for Virgo Season: Yoga, Crystals & Essential Oils

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

Symbolized by a young woman holding a sheaf of wheat, the Zodiac Sign of Virgo represents the Mother Goddess and the life-giving energy of the harvest.

Often confused to be a literal “virgin”, the symbolic Virgo woman is a mother, more than anything, and a young one at that. According to Patricia Davis, author of Astrological Aromatherapy, many early myths around the sign of Virgo involved a young Goddess coming into union with a God and bearing a child; examples include Isis and Her son Horus, and Leto and Her so Apollo.

This strong, nurturing energy of the Mother Goddess is what influences the Virgoan attributes of cleanliness, organization, and keen attention to detail. People born under the Sign of Virgo (whether it’s their Sun Sign, or they have many planets in Virgo) are well-known for their strong sense of service and, of course, their perfectionistic tendencies.

In my opinion, it is these attributes that make the Sign of Virgo the Sign of the Healer. Virgo people are intrinsically motivated to take care of themselves and others, and as a result, are typically quite healthy. Their strong desire to be of service to others often places them in careers in the helping industries, such as nursing, early education, and social work.

Left unchecked, however, Virgos can easily become hypochondriacs. This is due to their natural perfectionism, obsessive tendencies, and clean freakiness, which can create a perfect storm for anxiety around their health.

The key, therefore, is to ensure that we are maintaining a balance between work and play; to take care of ourselves first, so that we can more effectively help others; and to cultivate gratitude for the health that we already have.

Virgo Season reminds us to take a good look at our wellness practices to make sure that we’re fully supported in every area of our lives. If our wellness routine is lacking in any way, we can always tap into the energy of Virgo, which is always waiting for the opportunity to “clean things up” for the purposes of increased efficiency.

Yoga & Fitness for Virgo Season

Virgo rules the lower digestive tract (particularly the intestines) and the liver. Anxiety, stress, and mental exhaustion can easily lead to dis-ease in these areas, ranging from an upset stomach to more chronic digestive issues. Gentle twists, meditative asanas, and Yin Yoga would be beneficial for Virgo-related issues.

Virgo energy also loves efficiency and clarity. This is a great time for HIIT workouts and bootcamp-style classes, where you get the biggest bang for your buck in the least amount of time.

Crystals for Virgo Season

If you’re in need of that signature Virgo drive to help dig deep and accomplish your tasks, work with Tiger’s Eye, Yellow Jasper, Red Jasper, Citrine, or Clear Quartz.

However, if you’ve got Virgo energy on overload and are in need of some self-care and rejuvenation, work with Amethyst, Blue Lace Agate, Selenite, or Moonstone.

Essential Oils for Virgo Season

The essential oil of Lavender most closely resonates with the nurturing qualities of Virgo, and can help to encourage you to fill your cup so that you’re giving from a place of abundance.

Other essential oils that can help you to enjoy your self-care rituals and avoid burnout include Jasmine, Rose, and Geranium. Topical aromatherapy in the form of massage (even self-massage), would be ideal for Virgo.

And because Virgo rules the lower digestive system, an essential oil rub made with peppermint, fennel, or caraway essential oil can help to ease stomach upset. As a general guideline, use 1 teaspoon of carrier oil (such as sweet almond or grapeseed oil) with 1-2 drops of essential oil.

If ever there was an astrological season of wellness, this is it! I hope you enjoy this beautiful Virgo energy.

Namaste,
