New Moon in Cancer

“I love my people. I love my family, I love my children . . . But inside myself is a place where I live all alone and that’s where you renew your springs that never dry up.” – Pearl S. Buck

Welcome to the soothing, steadfast, and secure land of The Crab. Cancerian energy is about the hearth and home, our emotions, and our ability to care for ourselves and others.

Cancerian people are known for their changeable emotions (read: moodiness), super sensitivity, and nurturing qualities. However, where a Full Moon would amplify this energy, the New Moon brings our awareness to these areas in our lives which could benefit from a little bit of extra love and attention.

Since the Sign of Cancer is ruled by the Moon, we typically say that the Moon is “exalted” in this sign. This is a beautiful time to focus on the areas of our lives that are under the domain of La Luna:

Your Home

The Moon rules all aspects of your home, from real estate to housekeeping and everything in between. This is a great time to consider how your house (or apartment, etc.) can feel like more of a home.

Do you even enjoy coming home? Do you have a designated place to work, to meditate, or to play? If you live with others, do you have a place that’s just your own? And if not, can you think of creative ways to carve out space and time for yourself?

Whether it’s a special reading chair, or even just a special time of day where you can inhabit a certain area of your home in solitude, make the effort this month to really love where you live.

Your Inner World

Taking the time to spruce up your living arrangements and create sacred space are really just a primer for the real work: Your Soul Work.

The Moon rules intuition, solitude, repose, and receptivity, so be very aware of any insights that you receive during meditation and channeling during this month. It would be best to journal them and to let the information sit for now; Cancer energy is great for intuitive clarity, but it’s also easily influenced by emotion, so things are never as straightforward as they seem.

Everybody tends to be a bit more emotional and overly sensitive during Cancer Season. Be mindful of your own moods, and make decisions with extra care. This is the time to prioritize turning inward, and really thinking things through.

Your Heart

On that note, I cannot stress enough how volatile people can be, and how dramatic situations can seem during this time of the year. Cancerian energy is beautiful, loving, nurturing, and oh-so-generous . . . But left unchecked, it can lead to codependence, extreme jealousy, manipulation, and mind games.

Self-love is the name of the game. Cancer Season is a reminder to take care of YOU, particularly, the soft, sensitive, emotional side of you. Sometimes we need to literally “baby” ourselves in order to get realigned, and this is likely one of those times!

The gift of emotional sensitivity is that it makes it almost impossible for us to put up with BS. Is a purge – of people, or things – in order? Whatever you need to do, just do it. The New Moon in Cancer wants you to know that you’re worth it.

Imagine a person sitting in solitude, smiling to themselves, simply enjoying their own company . . .

Imagine this person not wanting to be anywhere in the world but where they are now . . .

Now, imagine that this person is you . . .

How would that feel?

Nurture your home, your mind, and your heart. May this New Moon bless you with the gift of softness and grace.

Blessings,
