New Moon in Virgo

The New Moon in Virgo is the time to take a sacred pause. This is the season to reset, restart, and recalibrate.

While New Moons hold potent energy for new beginnings, the Virgo New Moon occurs during a deeply transitional time of the year; therefore, it is imperative that we take a long pause to assimilate everything that’s occurred up to this point before moving forward onto something new.

The shift from Summer to Fall (in the Northern Hemisphere) is a multi-sensory experience that can not only be seen and felt in nature, but in the change in our everyday routines. Virgo is the Sign of Mutable Earth – the Sign of change in the physical realm – and it’s up to us to determine how chaotic (if at all) this change is going to be.

The energy of Virgo resonates strongly with our health and wellness, due to Virgo’s natural tendency to ensure that everything in our lives is “just so”. The particular flavour of wellness during the Virgo time of year is one of self-care, balance, and structure; for more on this, please read Wellness Tips for Virgo Season: Yoga, Crystals & Essential Oils.

On this New Moon, I encourage you to PAUSE. Take a day (or two) off. The energy over the next month is going to build tremendously, and the best way to get the most out of the experience is to do what Virgo does best and plan ahead… And you can’t do that without taking the time to stop, reflect on the past, and consider your level of presence in the moment.

Ways to Pause

  • Take the day off to rest – pretend you’re taking a “sick day”. You’d be surprised how taking a sick day before becoming sick, actually prevents you from becoming sick!
  • Spend the day reading fiction and drinking your favourite, warm beverages
  • Do an at-home meditation retreat – here are some instructions
  • Journal the day away! Set a timer for 20 minutes, write with abandon, then take a break. Repeat throughout the day
  • Do a long practice of Restorative or Gentle Yoga
  • Nap with abandon!

The energy of the New Moon is most potent from the onset of the actual lunar event, until about 3 days after. Try to dedicate at least one day to a few of these activities, and moving forward, commit to keeping at least one or two of these practices as a regular part of your life.

When the energy of Virgo comes from a place of fear and panic (i.e., you don’t feel in control of the situation), then its only natural that the energy will manifest as obsessive-compulsiveness and perfectionism,

However, if you can take advantage of this sacred pause and come from a place of peace and surrender, then the energy of Virgo will flow through you in an empowering way.

The gifts of Virgo include a strong attention to detail, a natural drive to better yourself, and the genuine desire to serve others – these are what await you on the other side of the sacred pause.

Namaste,
