Aries in the time of COVID-19: Year 2

It’s Aries Season, and that means it’s been over a year since the world was placed into lockdown. Le sigh. So much has changed for me – and for everyone – since then.

Last year, I ended the gardening season by planting a new perennial garden in my front yard. As the snow melts, I’m starting to see my beautiful new plants and flowers peeking through the earth. This is truly symbolic, as last year I transitioned my school to be entirely virtual, and started a new way of living and being, which encapsulated everything from how I parent, how I entertain myself and my family, and how I make a living. 

And just like with my new perennials, I’m going to see how these new changes are going to reveal themselves in this new astrological year. Some changes will stick and support me for a long period of time; and other changes will prove themselves to be “duds”, if you will. Only time will tell. 

The fiery new energy of Aries does not promise results, only potential. All we can do is the very best we can, given what we have. However you’ve landed since last year, I hope this one is fruitful and full of joy and connection.

Aries (March 21st – April 20th)

Spring forth! As the wheel of the Zodiac turns, we begin again in the astrological sign of Youth and New Beginnings. Aries is the “baby” sign, you could say; bursting with life and unlimited potential.

Tap into this astral energy to fuel your projects and to build your confidence. Be wary of over-excitement and blind enthusiasm – many things/people/ideas will seem attractive, but they won’t all be winners. Channel the energy of Aries into a laser focus on long-term, value-based victories. Don’t fizz out.

In the body, Aries rules the head, and a build-up of Aries-type energy can manifest in the form of headaches, as well as inflammation or irritation. And with Mars ruling Aries, there’s a propensity towards irritability and aggression.

There’s a lot of potential in the air with Aries . . . Best to be aware of it and channel the energy appropriately! The following wellness tips will help you stay balanced, graceful, and cool.

Yoga & Fitness for Aries Season

Priority: Since Aries rules the head, poses that release the neck and shoulders are beneficial.

Depending on how this energy makes you feel, your physical practice can go one of two ways:

If you’re loving the strong, fiery Aries vibe (especially if you tend to reside in the mutable energetic sphere), this might be a great time to really work on your alignment and endurance in Vinyasa Flow-type classes, as well as to experiment with fusion Yoga classes that incorporate Pilates, Barre, or even HIIT (a la Sadie Nardini!).

However, if Aries Season has you over-stimulated and stressed to the max, a Hatha, Iyengar practice will help you keep your head on. Heck, if there was ever a time to take up Yin Yoga, it’s now! No hot rooms for you 😉

Herbs for Aries Season

Aries brings a lot of heat and intensity, which when left unchecked can manifest as anxiety, stress, and weak immune system. The following herbs, taken as nourishing herbal infusions or teas, can help to support your mind and body, enabling you to take on the big tasks ahead:

Stinging Nettle – I drink this daily! I make 2 pots of stinging nettle infusion, and I steep and drink it throughout the day. Delicious hot or cold.

Lavender – A key ingredient in any calming tea blend. Drink it as you wind down for the day, or right before bed.

Essential Oils for Aries Season

Rosemary – According to Patricia Davis, author of Astrological Aromatherapy, Rosemary is resonates most with Aries. With a strong and direct aroma, the scent of Rosemary will dominate over any other oil it is blended with. It’s also great for alleviating headaches.

Peppermint – This is another great oil for soothing headaches and easing general tension. Aries is a very hot and fiery sign, and Peppermint can help you energetically chill out. It’s also great for keeping maintaining alertness and focus.
