Welcome to Capricorn Season, the beginning of a new year! The general tendency of this time of year – and all those born under it – is to hustle, hustle, hustle.
Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, which as a planetary deity is the God of Order, Routine, and All Things That Must Be Done. Saturn is the God of Time, and is keeping time – yours, in fact. Saturnian energy ensures that we pay our bill on time, show up early, and floss daily.
Therefore, Capricorn people will not be surprised to learn that while they are generally physically resilient (and tend to become more resilient as they age!), they tend to work themselves to the bone, and may up with stress-related illnesses and injuries as a result.
Capricorn rules the bones, joints, and teeth. Think of stress-induced TMJ which leads to teeth grinding, and the creaky knees and tight hips of the desk-bound overachiever or overworked athlete. Notice how excess in either direction (whether too sedentary or too active) leads to wear and tear on the joints!
Yoga & Fitness for Capricorn Season
All weight-bearing activities will be super beneficial during this time. Weight-bearing activities build bone strength, increase muscle mass, and build mental resilience. It helps you carry yourself better (posture!), and enables you to increase your load – both literally and figuratively.
A weight-bearing activity is anything that gets you on your feet, or has you working against gravity; and of course, anything that requires you to pick heavy things up and put them down again in rapid succession works beautifully 🙂 These activities include:
- Walking, jogging, or running
- Weight lifting
- Active Yoga (Power, Vinyasa, Flow, Xen Strength, etc.)
- Indoor climbing
- HIIT or Bootcamp
Specific yoga poses are any that have you in a standing position, or working against gravity, such as:
- Warrior – All variations
- Lunges – All variations
- Chair – All variations
- Downward Dog
- Standing balancing poses
- Mountain Pose
If you can move in a more rhythmic, flowing motion, all the better!
Crystals for Capricorn Season
A busy (and perhaps achy) Capricorn-type person would benefit from the grounding and transmuting energies of Smoky Quartz and Jet.
Amber, while not technically a crystal (it’s a resin), is a wonderful stone to work with for reducing stress, purifying energy, and alleviating aches and pains.
And because it’s the new year, having Chrysocolla to support the energy of new beginnings will help to revitalize tired energy.
Essential Oils for Capricorn Season
This is the time for wood-based essential oils, for both their ability to create a deep sense of calm, as well as their anti-inflammatory properties.
Cedarwood is grounding, great for the respiratory system, and safe for the whole family.
Vetiver is also grounding, and applied topically, can help with muscle and joint pain.
Birch is also an excellent anti-inflammatory, and has a wonderfully refreshing and cooling aroma.
In the spirit of Capricorn season, stay strong!
